    Good video! I noticed you don’t use a wire brush to clean the lead. I was told there is tinning on the lead????

    • @DerekHuntArtist
      @DerekHuntArtist День назад

      Hi Jim, I do wire brush the lead if it needs cleaning before soldering. Older lead can oxidise so needs to be scrubbled clean to get a good joint with the flux. New lead doesn’t need to be cleaned.

    Thank you for this review. I purchased a mastercraft brand glass cutter and it looks exactly like the ones in this video. I found it was exactly like what you had experienced. I couldn’t see the wheel, had to hold it on a 90 degree angle, it didn’t score the glass evenly, etc. I figured it had to be my imagination, but you solidified my unfortunate reality. I would not consider using a glass cutter of this style, ever again. In the end, I feel your experience is also unfortunate reality. Thanx for helping me feel sane again, and I’ll be sticking with appropriate tools for a job well done😉

    Would you say this grinder is significantly more quiet than others? I live in an apartment building and want to find something that wont be so loud, if not than how do you feel about an abrasive stone as an alternative?

    • @DerekHuntArtist
      @DerekHuntArtist 9 дней назад

      Its about the same noise level as other grinders. The motor is quiet but the noise is generated when glass is being grinded, so they all sound about the same.

    Buenos días! Compre el curso online y me ha encantado, oficialmente eres mi mentor ☺️ tengo una duda acerca del Silver stain, si lo aplico en la misma cara del esmalte, la tin side, mientras estoy esparciéndolo puedo darle con la brocha de esparcir y retirar el exceso como se hace con el resto? Durante ese proceso en frío no afecta al esmalte hasta meterlo en el horno? O tengo que poner una capa gruesa ? He hecho pruebas y cuando aplico una capa gruesa si se solapan los brochazos estos adquieren un color más oscuro. No sé si mi duda está bien explicada, gracias 😊

    • @DerekHuntArtist
      @DerekHuntArtist 14 дней назад

      Hello, so glad you and finding my online course valuable ! I am not sure I understand your question. Silver stain will appear darker if it is applied in a thicker layer. You can make the layer thinner with extra water in the mix or by using the badger brush to spread out the layer of stain more thinly. Hope that helps 🙏🙂

    • @felisarequena
      @felisarequena 14 дней назад

      Gracias por contestar, si extiendo el amarillo de plata y cubre el esmalte, antes de hornear, mientras retiro el exceso no resulta corrosivo para el esmalte en el proceso? Todo ello previo a hornear, quizá es una pregunta tonta 🙏🏻

    • @DerekHuntArtist
      @DerekHuntArtist 14 дней назад

      It is best to fire the silver stain separately to enamel painting. So I suggest you do your enamel painting first and fire that in the kiln. Then paint your stain after that and fire the glass again.

    Bought one from Screwfix just to do 2 jobs. Useless. Convinced that there is no edge to the wheel and the glass is only 2mm thick. Failed. No sound when scoring and the first thing I found was not being able to see the wheel when cutting to a drawing. I was wanting to cut two windows for a model steam loco. Within a 2 inch square. Very disappointed. The gadget I have for cutting glass tubes worked a treat first time.

    Dear artist Derek, the sanguine and progressive it appears when you carefully keep the soul of original art of glass painting and the equal respect to the ambiance of the contemporary art. Its really a leadership of yours. My question is , if the iron oxide used in same way as 'silver stain' on float glass, and fire it upto 800 Celsius degree temperature, will it work? Are there some alternate to experiment with budget, as for learner its curious and also a bit financial look up too.

    • @DerekHuntArtist
      @DerekHuntArtist Месяц назад

      The iron oxide paint is fired at 650 degrees centigrade and the silver stain (yellow) is fired at 620 degrees centigrade. You can use a ceramics kiln or a pottery kiln if you can find a second hand one on ebay. As long as you can control the temperature to the levels I suggested, you will be able to fire the paints and stains successfully.
