Thank you . I tried glass cutting for my project and the results were awful. Now I will try using your method . But I don’t get the small screechy sound. I had tried but couldn’t. I will try again. Hope to succeed.
You can do it!
Good video! I noticed you don’t use a wire brush to clean the lead. I was told there is tinning on the lead????
Hi Jim, I do wire brush the lead if it needs cleaning before soldering. Older lead can oxidise so needs to be scrubbled clean to get a good joint with the flux. New lead doesn’t need to be cleaned.
Good afternoon Derek, I really enjoyed the video, what are the paints you are using and where are they for sale? Thank you in advance.
Hi Lee, I use traditional vitreous glass paints sold at specialist outlets. Google Reusche glass paint suppliers in your area and you should be able to order online 🙂
Thank you
Thank you for this review. I purchased a mastercraft brand glass cutter and it looks exactly like the ones in this video. I found it was exactly like what you had experienced. I couldn’t see the wheel, had to hold it on a 90 degree angle, it didn’t score the glass evenly, etc. I figured it had to be my imagination, but you solidified my unfortunate reality. I would not consider using a glass cutter of this style, ever again. In the end, I feel your experience is also unfortunate reality. Thanx for helping me feel sane again, and I’ll be sticking with appropriate tools for a job well done😉
Hey Amanda, so glad you found the video helpful!🙏🙂
Me encanto el video! 🎨
Thank you!🙏🙂
Some of my most favorite ideas came from scribbling in a notebook during work or a meeting. Just letting my mind run wild and draw whatever came to it. I have repurposed many doodles into my art. ❤
Love that!
The paint that I use needs to be kiln fired to bake it onto the glass.
Great video Derek, thanks for sharing😊 I'm about to paint a section of a fixed glass window unit, does it need to be primed first and is there a certain paint you would recommend that doesn't need curing? I've researched but to no avail😅

Please is it possible to mix silver stain same as iron oxide with gum Arabic?
Silver stain doesn't need gum arabic as it already has gamboge gum added during the manufacturing process.
Would you say this grinder is significantly more quiet than others? I live in an apartment building and want to find something that wont be so loud, if not than how do you feel about an abrasive stone as an alternative?
Its about the same noise level as other grinders. The motor is quiet but the noise is generated when glass is being grinded, so they all sound about the same.
Hi Derek, I have owned these running pliers for some time. They are my go to tool for complex cuts as with practice you can run the fracture very slowly around a curve with great control. For simple and straight cuts I use traditional running pliers or my hands. Love your channel
Awesome Richard! Thanks for your feedback and your support, very much appreciated 🙂
You are a star Derek ! Thank you
Wow, thanks!
Hello, so glad you and finding my online course valuable ! I am not sure I understand your question. Silver stain will appear darker if it is applied in a thicker layer. You can make the layer thinner with extra water in the mix or by using the badger brush to spread out the layer of stain more thinly. Hope that helps 🙏🙂
It is best to fire the silver stain separately to enamel painting. So I suggest you do your enamel painting first and fire that in the kiln. Then paint your stain after that and fire the glass again.
@@DerekHuntArtist yes, I do it like this 🤗
@@DerekHuntArtist Sorry for not explaining myself well, the question is if while I apply the silver stain and it covers the already fired enamel, if it can corrode it while I take my time removing it before firing
So excellent. Thank you! I wish I'd found you when I started. It would have saved me a LOT of injuries and wasted glass!
Awesome! Glad you found the video helpful. Please subscribe and check out all the glass tutorials on my channel! 🙏🙂
Hi Derek. Do you know if you’ll be conducting a glass painting class in September and if so what are the dates? I live in the states, will be in Europe in September and would love to take one of your glass painting classes. I have experience in glass windows, fuseing and blowing. Lee…
Hi Lee, I will be announcing more dates soon and September is a strong possibility. Please check my social media or my web site www.limelightstudios.co.uk/courses for updates !
14th & 15th June NEW DATES ANNOUNCED for my in person Glass Painting Master Class. To register your interest and booking details CLICK below www.derekhuntartist.com/2-day-glass-painting-master-class
The thickness of the glass how much?
Approximately 3mm thickness
Can you tell me " which cutter be used for 0.5mm glass"???
Probably find that Chinese production is behind the German label. I have noticed such on other items
Bought one from Screwfix just to do 2 jobs. Useless. Convinced that there is no edge to the wheel and the glass is only 2mm thick. Failed. No sound when scoring and the first thing I found was not being able to see the wheel when cutting to a drawing. I was wanting to cut two windows for a model steam loco. Within a 2 inch square. Very disappointed. The gadget I have for cutting glass tubes worked a treat first time.
Thanks for your comment Stuart, seems like you had a poor experience with these cutters as well!
I can visualize what I'd like to establish, but the steps to take as your specific sized drawings I would like to learn how to do it step by step as you teach in these shorts
I would purchase a book or DVD of your making of your stained glass windows because you teach simply but the time it takes and the instructions of the specific elements I would love to learn from and you would make a great author and Mentor for us all. You're a Classic Artist in a modern age🇺🇸
I am publishing a new online course on how to make stained glass windows, which should be ready in the next few weeks. Stay tuned for more information soon!
I love your unique shapes ❤Do have a book of steps or dvd usb making of your stained glass windows for sale? 🇺🇸

Can I get the name for led and from where can I get it ???
You can buy lead came from specialist suppliers depending which country you are in.
@@DerekHuntArtist I’m from USA - North Carolina
@@Rahman_2740 you'll have to do a local search for stained glass suppliers in your area to find the nearest one
How did you draw that bird's outline in black would you please mention
I painted the bird with vitreous glass paints which are fired in a kiln at 650 degrees centigrade.
@@DerekHuntArtist thank you...would you please make a video on that🥲

Thinking of buying one...nice review!

I an just starting out and see many others doing the same thing. So, great tip.
Awesome!
Amazing ideas!!!!! Thank you!!!
You’re welcome!
Annoying music. I know it's hard to find uncopywritten music, but Opera is better than this! At least let the fat lady sing.😂 Like your videos though.
Watching again as I finally started my stained glass class! I had issues cutting out my pieces that were half circles and lots of waves! It is my first piece and I totally forgot about the tips you had here! Now I'm ready to go grab some practice glass ...and do some more practicing with the shapes you've shown here!
Wonderful!
Had me til you said fabulous sorry chap
Hi Derek did you add blue background on the back of front. Thanks

What a magical and inspirational place to work! I could get lost in my head in a place like this.
Thanks for watching, and glad you enjoyed it!
Brilliant video! May I ask which brand of eye protection are you wearing in this video? I also wear eye glasses and haven't been able to find something suitable yet. Thank you

Which kiln is best for a starterhow much im from d philippibes a glassartiat byt i like to try glassfusing too.thanks
Unfortunately I don’t know the kiln suppliers in your area. In the uk a good start up kiln is called the Hobby Fuser by Kilncare. www.kilncare.com/hobbyfuser
Congratulations
Thank you!🙏🙂
Dear artist Derek, the sanguine and progressive it appears when you carefully keep the soul of original art of glass painting and the equal respect to the ambiance of the contemporary art. Its really a leadership of yours. My question is , if the iron oxide used in same way as 'silver stain' on float glass, and fire it upto 800 Celsius degree temperature, will it work? Are there some alternate to experiment with budget, as for learner its curious and also a bit financial look up too.
The iron oxide paint is fired at 650 degrees centigrade and the silver stain (yellow) is fired at 620 degrees centigrade. You can use a ceramics kiln or a pottery kiln if you can find a second hand one on ebay. As long as you can control the temperature to the levels I suggested, you will be able to fire the paints and stains successfully.
Thank you for these fantastic and informative videos. You’ve enticed me to jump into this form of art and what I need to buy to make learning this work for me with minimal frustration. Cheers from Texas!
You’re very welcome! Glad you’re starting to make stained glass !🙏🙂
I love how simple you teach❤
Thank you!🙏🙂
